Anaïs Berck is a research-oriented art project. Over the years it has evolved from working with databases about trees towards collaborating with living trees. The following trees are witnesses of this process.

2026, Lime Tree, parking lot, Louvain-la-Neuve
I am a Lime Tree. I live on the parking lot of the Faculty of Bioengineering in Louvain-la-Neuve (BE). From April 2026 to January 2027 I’ll participate in the artistic research project and installation ‘ROOTS’ (Revealing Opaque Organic and Technological Systems) thanks to the support of UCLouvain Culture.

I am a majestic Black Walnut, protected by humans, living in the garden of the community centre GC Wabo in Boitsfort-Bosvoorde (BE). From October 2025 to April 2027 I’m participating in the reflection project Author rights for Trees, with the support of the Flemish Government-Arts.

I’m a Hornbeam living in a protected part of the Sonian Forest in Brussels (BE). From 2017 till 2025 I collaborated on the creation of the novel Reports from the Forest, launched on 14 June 2026. With the support of Vlaamse Overheid - Kunsten, Natuurinvest, nadine arts centre Brussels, Chez Rosi..

I am a Scots Pine living in De Liereman above Antwerp (BE). From October 2024 till October 2025 I participated in the artistic research project and installation Tree Times, thanks to the support of Vlaamse Overheid Kunsten, Constant, De Vroente Kalmthout, Landschap de Liereman, National Park Bosland-Boslab.

I am a Chestnut Tree, 375 years old, living in Gulden Bodem, a city park in Arnhem (NL). Locals call me one of the tree Gatekeepers. From June 2024 till December 2024 I participated in the artistic research project and installation Arnhem Trees Tell, thanks to the support of municipality of Arnhem.

I am a Purple Leaf Plum living in Calle de las Huertas 45 in the neighbourhood of las Letras in Madrid (ES). 2020, Juniper in L'Ile mystérieuse by Jules Verne
Jules Vernes had the habit of never simply calling his trees ‘trees’, but always mentioned the species name and often descriptions as well. I am one of the Junipers that populate the Lincoln Island in his novel L’île mystérieuse. From January 25 till October 25, 2020, I participated in the installation An Anthology in the exhibition Bye Bye Future at the Musée de Littérature de Mariemont.

2020, List of tree genera, Wikipedia
We are all the tree species that are mentioned on the English Wikipedia list of tree genera. From 25 June to 20 December 2020 we participated in the online work When Organic Trees meet the Data Tree, as part of the online exhibition DiVersions, organised by Constant. The work was also presented at Les Colloques de Cerisy, ‘Angles morts du Numérique‘ in September 2020.

I am an abstract Nutmeg, described differently in English, Spanish, Dutch and French Wikipedia. From 11 till 26 October 2019 I participated in the work Wikified Colonial Botany that was part of the exhibition Diversions organised by Constant in De Pianofabriek, Brussels. The work was also presented at MozFest2019 London and APREM in La Fabrique de Théâtre in La Bouverie, BE.

I’m Sacred Tree nr o.00271 in the online collection Carmentis, of the Musée du Cinquantenaire in Brussels, BE. I participate in The story of two sacred trees - a modern fairy tale, that was published in the zine Superficial Intelligence by Brendan Howell in Spring 2018.
